Panic Attacks

Does this sound familiar?

There you were, walking along seemingly in control of things when suddenly you noticed:

  • your heart was beating a bit too fast and much to loudly
  • your hands were sweaty,
  • it was hard to breathe,
  • you felt feint or dizzy
  • there was a tightness around your chest

It seemed to go on for ages – getting worse and worse until you thought that you were losing control and going crazy, or maybe that you were going to die,…

Then it was over. Your breathing returned to normal, you noticed your heart had slowed down, the sweat had dried up and … well, everything seems fine again. Till the next time.

These intense and unpredictable, short lived bouts of extreme anxiety are known as panic attacks. They often only last a few minutes, but it seems like so much longer. As we focus on the sudden appearance of physical sensations caused by anxiety we can even begin to be anxious about those feelings, thinking that they might be a serious physical illness, a heart attack maybe.
It seems reasonable that panic attacks are an indication that you are living with a high level of anxiety. This is why hypnotherapy can help. You really can’t be anxious and relaxed at the same time, and we can use hypnotherapy to remind you how to relax really deeply. This can be immensely beneficial. Combining hypnotherapeutic relaxation training with a mixture of Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques can help you to reduce your general anxiety levels so that panic attacks become things of the past.

If you want to free yourself from panic attacks contact Amanda to find out how hypnotherapy can help you.
